College of Engineering Presents Senior Awards, Installs Officers at Engineers’ Council Banquet

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University announced the Outstanding Senior Awards and installed new officers at the Engineers’ Council annual spring banquet held at the NC State University Club on April 20.

Tyler Schweitzer, Engineers’ Council president for 2004-06, presented a check for $37,000 to Tim Scronce, chief executive officer of TelWorx Communications Inc. and a member of the NC State Engineering Foundation Board of Directors. The check was the final installment on a $100,000 pledge to the College of Engineering to support student scholarships.

Dr. Nino A. Masnari, dean of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Richard Keltie, associate dean for academic affairs, led the installation of the 2006-07 executive board members of the Engineers’ Council. The 2006-07 Engineers’ Council officers are Casey Fields, chair; Alex Carter, vice chair; Joseph Morrow, secretary; and Tarryn McLean, treasurer.

Following the installation of new officers, Masnari and Keltie presented College of Engineering senior awards in each of four categories: scholarly achievement, citizenship and service, humanities and leadership. The award for scholarly achievement went to two individuals, Blake C. Lucas, an electrical and computer engineering and computer science double major, and Jessica H. McCoy, an industrial engineering and applied mathematics double major. The award for citizenship and service was given to Margaret C. Linak, a chemical engineering and applied mathematics double major with a minor in Spanish language and literature, and the humanities award was presented to Patrick J. Cleary, a paper science and engineering, chemical engineering and history triple major. The leadership award was given to two individuals, Nathaniel Derbinsky, a computer science major, and Robert Moorefield, a chemical engineering and polymer and color chemistry double major.
