Blue Ridge Biofuels

Project

Blue Ridge Biofuels increases the use of biodiesel in Western North Carolina.

On the Road to Success

Alternative Fuel TechnologyBRB box

  • Thanks to Blue Ridge Biofuels, LLC and their Alternative Fuel Incentive Project grant, biodiesel fuel is readily available for purchase in Asheville.

  • Funds from the Solar Center grant were used to purchase an industry-standard fuel dispenser and new storage tanks to hold B100 and biodiesel blended fuel.

  • The new pump at The Gas Up, an independently owned service station at 405 Haywood Rd in West Asheville, will be the first fully commercial location to purchase biodiesel in western NC.

  • This location sells B99 in the summer, B50 in the winter, and B20 all year round.

  • B100 is biodiesel fuel in its pure, nonblended form. Biodiesel is renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable, and its use significantly reduces vehicle pollutant emissions.

  • BRB pumpBlue Ridge Biofuels will begin distribution of out of state biodiesel but plans to expand production of its own B100 using waste vegetable oil from restaurants. Since Blue Ridge Biofuels will dispense biodiesel produced at its nearby plant, the company will be able to lower transportation costs and offer the fuel at a more competitive price.

  • "Public response has been phenomenal!" said Director of Development Paul Beaton. "There is a large demand for biodiesel in this area and folks can hardly wait until we are able to fully serve them."
