
| Mobilizing NC - April 18, 2007 The NC Department of
Transportation, NC Division of Air Quality, Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART), the State Energy Office and numerous other
organizations sponsored the Mobilizing NC conference in
Greensboro. The goal of the conference, which was hosted by the
NC Solar Center, was to raise awareness about ways to improve fuel
efficiency and reduce emissions and greenhouse gases, such as carbon
dioxide, which scientists believe is responsible for global warming. More than 300 people attended
the conference to learn about alternative fuels, advanced
transportation technologies, fleet procurement policies, refueling
options, incentives, and best practices examples. In addition to
the sessions, the attendees were treated to a luncheon keynote address
by Dr. Richard Leakey, the world's best-known paleo-anthropologists,
who addressed the global challenges created by climate change. General
