The BioEnergy Program at NC State University's
Solar Center advances the use of biomass (organic compounds such as
wood, plants, residues from agriculture or forestry, and even the
organic component of municipal and industrial wastes) to meet North
Carolina's energy needs. Some biomass energy applications that
are currently being developed include:
| Biopower |
Burning biomass directly, or converting it into a gaseous
fuel or oil, to generate electricity. |
| Bioproducts |
Converting biomass into chemicals for making products that
typically are made from petroleum. |
| Biofuels |
Converting biomass into liquid fuels for transportation. |
BioEnergy Projects at NCSU have developed a
plan for North Carolina’s future biomass utilization, are investigating
new crops and crop-variations optimized for bioenergy use, and are
researching efficient ways to convert biomass to bioproducts and
biofuels. More information can be found through the BioEnergy Resources and Related
Links, or feel free to contact us at the
NC Solar Center.
