The program includes an informal reception where prospective students and their parents have a chance to talk with young alumni about their NC State Engineering experience, their career and how their education helped prepare them for success.

Co Host Student Recruiting Events
Description: Each Fall, the College of Engineering hosts Student Recruiting Events across the state. These programs are essential to the College in order to attract the most talented students to Engineering. Historically, the events have been successful in motivating students to apply to the College of Engineering. We depend on alumni Co Hosts to help defray the costs of the event, which typically include room rental and light refreshments.

Serve as the College of Engineering Liaison to a Local High School or Prep School
Description: It is important for the College of Engineering at NC State to be at the forefront when high school counselors recommend programs to their students. To help strengthen the relationship between NC State’s College of Engineering and individual high schools, we are seeking alumni to serve as COE liaisons. Alumni Liaisons meet informally with a staff member from the school’s guidance staff once a year to provide an update on the College, our programs and opportunities for students.

Recommend Names of Potential Candidates for the College of Engineering
Description: In order to continue to attract the most talented students, we need your assistance! Please fill out the online form to recommend a prospective student. We will follow-up with a special letter and information on the College of Engineering.

Speak to AP Physics or AP Calculus Classes at Local High Schools about Engineering In the 21st Century and What Engineers Really Do
Description: In an effort to increase interest in the College of Engineering among high school students, we have developed a short program for alumni to present that includes an interactive activity to highlight the field of engineering. By targeting AP Physics and AP Calculus classes, we feel that we can reach students who have the background to be successful but might not have thought about pursuing engineering in college.

Visit Local Elementary and Middle Schools to Promote Engineering as a Profession and Share Information About the College of Engineering at NC State
Description: In order to increase the number of students that are interested in pursuing engineering in college, we need to reach out to students when they are in middle school to educate them on the opportunities available to them. The College of Engineering has developed several program templates that alumni can use in visits to local elementary schools. The templates include talking points and suggestions for an interactive activity that highlights an aspect of engineering.

Spread the Word About Engineering as a Profession
Description: Share information about engineering as a profession to colleagues, prospective students. You will be provided with a one-page primer on Engineering as a profession.

Mock Telephone Interviews
Description: Help students prepare for their job and internship interviews by serving as mock interviewers via telephone. You will be given the resume of the student and some sample questions to ask for the interview. The student is responsible for setting up a time to call you for the telephone interview.

Resume Review
Description: Help critique student resumes and provide feedback. You will be sent 1-2 student resumes prior to the Fall Engineering Career Fair and the Spring Engineering Career Fair. You will have one week to review the resumes and return them via fax or email to the Career Center.

Be a Mock Face-to-Face Interviewer for College of Engineering Students
Description of Opportunity: Help College of Engineering students prepare for their first face-to-face interviews by providing an opportunity to practice first! Students eagerly take advantage of this event each year and benefit greatly from the feedback. This opportunity can also result in great PR for your company.
Skills/Experience: Alumni with interview experience. Experience as an interviewer not necessary.

College of Engineering Career Networking Volunteer

Description of Opportunity: The College of Engineering and the University Career Center are partnering to harness the expertise of our alumni to provide career related assistance to our current students. The Engineering Career Network database will allow this sharing of expertise to take place. This database consists of alumni who have agreed to be contacted by students on a variety of career related topics (i.e., information interviews, resume assistance, serve as a resource for companies in the area, job search strategies, information on an area of the state or country). To become a part of ECN, we ask that you fill out a profile by visiting the following link - Go to the "Be a Career Networking Contact" box and click on "Create or Edit Your Career Networking Contact Profile". It's that simple. You many also add additional features to your profile including a photo and resume for others to view. Once you've completed your profile, students can contact you directly. This is a passive database, so you may not be contacted immediately. However, various offices on campus use this database to contact alums about participation in career-oriented panels, speaker series and mentoring opportunities, so it's great that your name will be included. Thank you for your participation.

Mentoring
Description of Opportunity: The College of Engineering participates in an on-line mentoring program called MentorNet. MentorNet is a one-on-one e-mentoring program where an experienced person (the mentor) provides information, advice, support and encouragement to a less experienced person (the protégé). Mentors offer guidance and counsel on the specific areas of interest to the student.
Skills/Experience: MentorNet mentors are professional women and men with educational and/or career backgrounds in engineering, math, science or technology. Mentors come from hundreds of different employers. Through MentorNet’s program, mentors share their professional experiences, lessons and triumphs with their protégés, thus helping the students of today reach their goals of tomorrow.

Description of Opportunity: The College of Engineering seeks interested alums from Fortune 500 companies willing to participate in either a lunchtime lecture series and/or panel discussions at student seminars. The topics will revolve around giving students personal and professional insights into real world careers, job hunting, employer expectations, and other topics of interest. Topics can be suggested based on your interests and areas of expertise.
Skills/Experience: Looking for alums specifically employed by larger, established companies because of the nature of our Forum Program. A career in Human Resources for a large, well-established technical company would also be applicable.

Co Host Alumni Event in Your Area
Description: Each year, the College of Engineering organizes alumni events across the country to re-connect alumni to each other and share news about the College of Engineering. In order to make these events a reality, we depend on alumni to serve as Co Hosts to help defray the costs of the events. Typically, we try to get 5-8 alumni to serve as Co Hosts for an event.

Co Host Alumni Lunch at Your Company
Description: Does your company or organization employ a large number of NC State Engineering Alumni? If so, consider serving as a Co Host for an Alumni Lunch at your company. An Alumni Lunch includes an update by the Dean or Associate Dean from the College of Engineering and an opportunity to re-connect alumni to each other. In order to make these events a reality, we depend on alumni to serve as Co Hosts to help defray the costs of the events. Typically, we try to get 2-3 alumni to serve as Co Hosts for an Alumni Lunch.

COE Alumni Clubs (Triangle, Triad, Charlotte)
Description: The College of Engineering is looking for alumni to help start Engineering Alumni Clubs in the Triangle, Triad and Charlotte areas. The leadership team for each club will be responsible for helping to plan one alumni event each year in their area. Through this effort, we hope to strengthen the network of COE alumni in the state and across the country. COE Alumni Clubs will hold events to help alumni strengthen their connections with classmates in their region, stay up-to-date on current trends in engineering and network with other alumni who have similar professional interests.

G.O.L.D. Regional Representative
Description: The College of Engineering has created a special leadership group for young alumni who have graduated in the past 10 years. G.O.L.D. (graduates of the last decade).G.O.L.D. was created to give young alumni the opportunity to reconnect with the College of Engineering and with each other by creating regional communities around the country. We have also created a variety of volunteer opportunities to engage young alumni in the life of the College. G.O.L.D. Regional Representatives help to promote NC State’s College of Engineering by serving on regional committees, planning regional alumni events to engage young alumni, increasing participation in College of Engineering events by encouraging friends and colleagues to attend, and supporting the College of Engineering at the G.O.L.D. Circle level on an annual basis.

Invite a College of Engineering Student to Spend a Day at Your Workplace
Description of Opportunity: It is important that our students learn about the opportunities that are available to them in the field of engineering. One way to help expose them to industry is to invite them to spend a day with an alumnus/ae in their workplace. This is an invaluable experience for the students and can help them determine where they should direct their careers.
Skills/Experience: Any alumnus who is willing to invite a student to spend a day with them in the workplace.

Co Host a Reception for New College of Engineering Graduates in Your Area
Description of Opportunity: In order to connect recent graduates to College of Engineering alumni in the cities where they work and attend graduate school, we organize receptions for new COE graduates each fall in major cities across the state and country. These receptions provide new graduates the opportunity to meet local alumni, get advice on getting involved in a community and build a sense of community. We depend on alumni to help defray the cost of the event by serving as Co Hosts. Typically, we need 4-6 alumni to serve as Co Hosts to make an event a reality.
