Application and Admission
Prerequisites
for admission are the same as those for other graduate programs and include
an accredited bachelor's degree in science or engineering and an overall
grade-point average of at least 3.0/4.0 on all previous undergraduate and
graduate work. Students who received their undergraduate degree outside
the U.S. (or selected other countries) and have not attended a U.S. institution
full time for one year must submit recent TOEFL scores of at least 213 or 550.
After a student is admitted to the Graduate School and enrolls for the first
time, she/he is required to maintain continuous registration, i.e., to be
enrolled each semester, excluding summer sessions, until graduation. A student
in good academic standing who must interrupt his or her graduate program
for good reasons may request a leave of absence from graduate study for
a definite period of time, normally not to exceed one year. The request
should be made at least one month prior to the term involved.
The Director of the Graduate Program serves as the students advisor
prior to completion of one-half the credits required towards the degree.
At that time the student should select a graduate advisor and together
they should complete a Plan of Graduate Work showing all courses to be
counted towards the degree. The Plan of Graduate Work must be signed
by the student and approved by the advisor, the Director of the Graduate
Program, and the Dean of the Graduate School.
