2008 Middle School Summer Engineering Camps |
|||||||
|
The NC State College of Engineering will be offering multiple week-long summer day camps for middle school students. The camps will take place at the NCSU Raleigh campus, Craven Community College - Havelock Campus, and Rocky Mount Gateway Technology Center. During the camps, students will experience engineering through hands-on, creative investigations and building activities. The goal of the camp is to show students what engineering is all about and to expose them to the fact that engineering work is all around them. They will see how engineers are involved in everyday consumer goods like cell phones and mp3 players, shampoo and packaged food, as well as technology advances in energy, video gaming, and biomedical systems. In the 2007 camp, students designed systems to transport eggs from nest to carton, discussed enzymes and made chocolate covered cherries, traveled to Civil Engineering to build and blow out soil retaining walls, designed and tested heart valves and water rockets, and much more! Activities are all new for 2008, although a design challenge with eggs is sure to show up on the agenda!
