WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2009 Thank you so much for your interest in the NC State University Engineering Summer Programs. We had an overwhelming response again this year and our applications have far exceeded the number of camp slots available! Therefore, we will not be accepting any additional applications and will not add names to our wait list. Please keep us in mind as you plan for next summer. We will update our website before the winter holidays with Summer 2010 camp dates and application information. FOR SUMMER 2009 APPLICANTS For students who submitted the electronic application and all necessary documents by the March 31st deadline, we are currently in the process of reviewing applications. Students will receive acceptance or wait list notifications via conventional mail by the end of April.

The NC State College of Engineering will be offering it's 4th Annual week-long summer day camp for elementary school students (rising 3rd through rising 5th) from July 6 - July 10, 2009. The camp will take place on NC State's campus and will be led by elementary school teachers in partnership with NC State engineering faculty and students. During the camp, students will experience engineering through hands-on, creative investigations and building activities. The goal of the camp is to show students what engineering is all about and to expose them to the fact that "engineers' work" is all around them. They'll see how engineers are involved in everyday consumer goods, as well as advancements in technology. The week culminates in an afternoon of competition between teams that parents and siblings are invited to attend. Camp Details: * Application Period: February 1st - March 31st * Lunch will be provided each day. * Camp hours are approximately 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday. * Camp fee: $250 for the week (limited scholarships available for those with demonstrated need).
Application Process: 1- Fill out electronic application (link at bottom of page), and 2- Send the following together by conventional mail. All materials must be received no later than March 31st, 2009 in order for the student to be considered:
The student will receive a postcard by mail when all of the above materials have been received. Student Selection: Only students who submit a complete application by the above-listed deadline will be considered for camp. Approximately 30-35 students will be selected for Elementary Camp. We consider a number of factors in selecting attendees from the pool of applicants. We rely heavily on the teacher recommendation and the student statement to make decisions. We also select students from a cross-section of backgrounds and geographic areas and invite students who may be interested in engineering, but have little or no background, as well as students who already have some previous experiences. Application date can play a small role when all other factors are equal. Accepted students will be notified before the end of April if they have been accepted to the camp or placed on a waitlist. Scholarship Request Letter: Scholarships can be requested for need based students. Since we do not wish to receive personal financial information from families, we rely on the school to indicate to us if a family has demonstrated need. Generally, participation in the free and reduced lunch program is an indicator, but a school counselor or other school official may be able to speak to other factors influencing financial need. For homeschooled students, parents should write the letter for the scholarship request indicating factors influencing financial need without providing specific financial information. Please submit this letter with the other components of the application. Recommendation Letter: (link to recommendation request letter) The recommendation letter should be written by a teacher or other school official and speak on behalf of the student. The letter should address the student's interests and abilities, as well as the student's character and suitability for attending the camp. Home school students may choose another adult who interacts with the student regularly and can speak to her/his abilities, interests, character, and suitability for attending camp.
