Case Statement for Support

College of Engineering

The Goal

The NC State College of Engineering has set a goal to become the top public college of engineering in the United States. The College advances from a solid foundation, guided by a thoroughly considered strategy for achieving its goal. A key to the climb will be to obtain additional support from our alumni, friends, corporations and other stakeholders.

The Foundation

NC State Engineering stands among the top tier of engineering colleges in the country. Students engage with a world-class faculty, in courses of study arrayed throughout 12 different departments, to achieve a dynamic engineering education—a thorough understanding of scientific and mathematical principles, working knowledge of the evolving methodologies of engineering, and the capability to think critically and work in teams.

The Strategy

In order to achieve our vision, the college must continue to recruit the best faculty and students, to pull in federal research dollars, to build and equip state-of-the-art facilities and to continue to lead the way in fostering productive corporate partnerships.

— Recruit and Retain Academic and Research Stars

Attracting and retaining the best faculty is our priority. We seek to increase the number of endowed chairs of departments, and the number of named professorships across the college

— Attract and Support the Best and Brightest Students

Tuition and fees at NC State are tracking on a sharp incline. As those rates continue to rise, endowed scholarship support becomes more important to our ability to attract and retain the best students.

— Equip our Facilities to Enhance Research, Learning, Partnering

Place occupies a prominent role in influencing the great work done by the faculty and students who define an institution. The college can only realize the full potential of its fresh space on Centennial Campus if it can provide the latest research and learning equipment to aid its faculty and students in fulfilling their own potential.

— Enhance Student and Outreach Programs

Through its academic programs, the college provides students a wealth of opportunities to broaden their experiences. We provide frameworks that foster collaboration and team-building, increase the number and diversity of talented students entering the fields of engineering, and internationalize the student experience to prepare for entry into the global marketplace.
