College Welcome
The First Year Engineering Program hosts an annual College of Engineering Welcome event that features our Dean of the College of Engineering and a keynote speaker, typically an NC State engineering alumnus.
The 11th annual College of Engineering Welcome was held on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the McKimmon Center. The keynote speaker was Jacob T. Hooks (MSE '78), president of Automotive North America, Eaton Corporation.

Hooks was named to his current position in 2009. He began his career with Aeroquip as a Product Engineer in June 1978 and joined Eaton Corporation with the acquisition of Aeroquip Vickers in April 1999 as Vice President and General Manager, Global Hose Division.
Other positions Hooks has held include Vice President, Engineering and Product Development; Vice President and General Manager, Industrial Division; Vice President and General Manager for the Automotive Group’s Powertain Controls Division; Vice President – Sales & Marketing for the Automotive Group; and his most recent position of President – Engine Air Management Business.
Hooks earned a bachelor’s degree in materials engineering from North Carolina State University in May 1978. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Executive Program and completed the Global Leadership 2020 program at the Amos Tuck School of Business of Dartmouth College.
