New student orientation at North Carolina State University is a one and a half day program that is required for all first-year students. The program is designed to help prepare students for the transition into college life, as well as for the intellectual, emotional, academic and social challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Engineering Programs
The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University offers a comprehensive list of engineering degree programs. All engineering students are expected to matriculate in one of the 18 engineering degree programs after completing select required coursework.
General Education Program
The General Education Program at North Carolina State University is designed to provide students the opportunity to experience diverse and integrative disciplinary perspectives. The program requires all students to complete a general set of courses in the mathematical sciences, the natural sciences, the humanities, the social sciences, physical education and other various disciplines.** For more information about general education course requirements, please visit the General Education Program website.
** For the College of Engineering, only the humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary perspective and additional breadth requirements, along with the U.S. Diversity and Global Knowledge co-requisites must be selected from a university-approved list. All other requirements are met by degree program requirements.
