CAC Faculty Fellow Description
Each semester, the Computing Across the Curricula (CAC) project will invite 12 faculty members from a variety of disciplines at NC State to participate in the biweekly seminars, which are designed to improve the way you use computing in your courses. The benefits and expectations of being a faculty fellow are as follows:
Benefits
- Join a biweekly, semester-long seminar with other faculty and local industry leaders with expertise and interest in integrating technology and pedagogy.
- Discuss with local industry stakeholders the challenges and opportunities in transforming undergraduate STEM education through the enhanced use of computing techniques and technologies.
- Improve the use of computing in your course(s), preparing students to perform high-level computing tasks within the context of a discipline and for computing in the workplace.
- Be designated a CAC Faculty Fellow at the end of the semester.
- Earn a $1000 stipend.
Expectations and Responsibilities
- Attend two 2-hour seminars per month (approximate 8 meetings during the semester).
- Write a proposal (up to one page) at the beginning of the semester, including responses to three main questions: 1) What is the research question? 2) What is your plan of action? 3) How do you plan to gather data to find out if your plan is effective? (Examples are available at the CAC Web site.)
- Implement relevant enhancements in your respective course to enhance students’ computational capabilities within the context of their respective discipline.
- Prepare a brief report of your course improvements at the end of the semester. (Examples are available at the CAC Web site.)
- Present a poster of your course improvements at the end of the semester.
- Serve as liaison between the CAC community and their respective departments—promoting and encouraging the adoption of new instructional methods and technologies in the classroom.
