Computer Committee

The NCSU College of Engineering Computer Committee is composed of faculty representatives from all engineering departments, with ex-officio membership by college IT staff. The committee advises the dean in the use of resources to support the Eos Computing Environment and in planning strategic direction for the college to follow in its use of information technology.

Virtual Computing Lab featured in Chronicle of Higher Education May 28, 2008

The Virtual Computing Laboratory at North Carolina State University is the subject of a feature story in this week's issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The article, headlined "A Computer Lab That Students Use but Never See," discusses the history of the lab, its growing reach across the state, and recent donations from IBM and Intel that have helped support it.

Nearly 80,000 academics subscribe to the Chronicle, and more than one million unique visitors access its website every month. The newspaper is based in Washington, D.C.

The Virtual Computing Lab is a next-generation computing environment that allows students and researchers to access powerful computing software and hardware remotely. The lab is part of an effort to bring affordable computing resources to the state's K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.
